Boho Wedding vibes at the Giraffe Shed
I've been following the Wild Ones Community online for a little while, brain child of Nicola Dixon (@nicoladixonphotographyco), who uses her creative genius and extensive industry networks to set up jaw-droppingly BEAUTIFUL styled shoots worldwide. As soon as I saw a UK shoot advertised, I knew that by hook or by crook, I simply had to be there!
These sessions are esentially portfolio building workshops and a safe space for photographers to get creative with willing couples, without the risk factor of it being someone's actual wedding day!
The venue was the Giraffe Shed, an alternative barn wedding venue in Tregynon (mid Wales), set up by the lovely Hannah and Neil on their family farm, who describe it as a little heptagonal palace of joy and dancing, that your Nana definitely won't approve of! It's a blank canvas, designed by a Wedding Photographer, with tonnes of natural light, that you can design however you want it!
There were 2 couples to photograph - Becca and Sam, who I'd had the pleasure of meeting once before - together for 5 years, married in August 2018, deeply in love and a joy to work with. Becca wore a stunning beaded Anna Campbell Bridal two piece.
We also had Flic & Olly there to photograph - Flic is part of the team at Jean Jackson Couture and wore a stunning floral floaty Rue de Seine number. Together for 18 months, Olly told me that they'd been firm family friends for much longer than that and that marriage was definitely on the cards!
It's MASSIVELY important to me to be able to capture the authentic, genuine and deep connection between any couple I photograph. I love nothing more than observing those sidelong glances, the in-jokes and the secret surreptitious smiles that they think no one else is noticing! Well I do! I notice it all and I love being able to snap it and freeze it in time for that couple to look back on forever!
Given that the Giraffe Shed is a blank canvas kind of a place, Nicola had pulled together the following creative time to style it as if it was a real life wedding! You would need to provide EVERYTHING here, but I love the idea of creating a totally unique wedding day!

After sampling a slice or two of the Pizza Pedlars wares ourselves (I can confirm, they make deeee-licious pizza!), a costume and look change for our models and we were back to work, photographing Becca and Sam with the Birdie Photo Booth - one of my fave things about the day!
Birdie was created by the lovely Kitty Orme and her friend Dave, who just happened to be an award winning VW camper van restorer. Birdie is a marshmallow pink VW camper van (born in 1978, just like me!), packed full of backdrops, props and snazzy technology to create a 'self contained, ready to roll, shenanigan station.'
If I wasn't already married I would definitely be tempted to have Birdie as part of my bid day, though with 80 weddings to get to this year, she's in high demand!
We finished the day with Flic and Olly posing against the Black Clad wall of the Giraffe Shed, which created a perfect contrast with their outfits, with beautiful soft light as the daylight started to fade, it was the perfect end to a fun packed photographic experience. Thanks to all that were involved!
